TAUS launches Translation Services API

20th September, 2012, Amsterdam – TAUS, the translation innovation think tank and platform for shared industry services, has launched a common Translation Services API to be adopted by the industry.

Most interoperability efforts for translation processes have focused on file formats. This made sense when systems were not pervasively interconnected. In today’s environment, where services are increasingly hosted in the cloud, web APIs offer the ability to simplify the process of interacting with translation resources and services while also allowing a complex task to be broken down into several small and simple requests.

The TAUS Translation Services API specifications have been developed in consultation with TAUS members, such as AVB Translations, Google, Straker Translations, Translated.net, Trusted Translations and Welocalize.

Welocalize has sponsored the development of a Validation Service, hosted on the TAUS Labs site. The Validation Service, can be used to check the compliance of any implementation. This ensures immediate transparency if there are any variances with implementations.
