Open Position at Institute of Computational Linguistics of the University of Zurich

At the Institute of Computational Linguistics we are developing the collaborative knowledge base editor AceWiki-GF (http://attempto.ifi.uzh.ch/acewiki-gf/) as part of the EU project MOLTO (http://www.molto-project.eu).

AceWiki-GF is on the one side based on AceWiki (http://attempto.ifi.uzh.ch/acewiki/) developed at the University of Zurich as part of the project Attempto (http://attempto.ifi.uzh.ch/site/), and on the other side on the Grammatical Framework (http://www.grammaticalframework.org) developed at the University of Gothenburg.

AceWiki-GF extends AceWiki – that is based solely on Attempto Controlled English – by supporting multiple underlying controlled natural language grammars and providing automatic translations into ~15 languages.

We are looking for a collaborator to work on the implementation, the language evaluation and the user evaluation of AceWiki-GF. The evaluation will be done in cooperation with the University of Helsinki.

Requirements

  • BSc (or equivalent) in computer science, computational linguistics, or a related field
  • ideally experience in Java programming
  • ideally one or more of the following:
    • knowledge of grammar-based NLP methods
    • semantic web (e.g. OWL)
    • design and evaluation of user experiments

Job description

  • the position is available from 1 January 2013 until 31 May 2013 when the project MOLTO ends
  • the start and end times of employment and the percentage of involvement can be negotiated
  • the salary depends on the qualification of the applicant
  • work location is Zurich at the Institute of Computational Linguistics of the University of Zurich
